The Basics
Ixora Maui Red is a dwarf, evergreen shrub that thrives on heat and humidity. A shrubby, sprawling plant with abundant clusters of tubular, bright orange flowers adorning the foliage in shades of bronze to glistening dark greens. Red Maui's heavy branching and compact habit make it an ideal choice for hedges, borders, and screens; also lovely in a pot as a houseplant. The Needs Amount of Sunlight: Full Sun / Partial Shade Amount of Water: Water Regularly Soil Conditions: Acidic; Well drained Cold Hardiness Zone: 9-11 The Care Prune Ixora after blooming slows in late autumn or anytime the shrub looks untidy. Prune each shoot down to just one bud or prune the shrub as needed to create the size and shape desired. Ixora shrubs tolerate pruning well and can be trimmed back by several inches without harm. However, many gardeners prefer to leave the shrub unsheared for a more natural appearance. |
